Two ry's plays a major role in women's life. Am i right?

The thing that we are going to discuss here is about two ry's. These two things plays really a major role in women's life. But it does not mean that women's life fully depends on this, i am just saying that majority of women's life is fully depends on this, as far as considered in India. No idea about other countries. I am leaving that topic discussion to my fellow foreign bloggers, but my friends here will discuss about the situation in India. Read the below lines then you will get my point, how these two ry's plays a major role in women's life especially in India.

First you give Dowry, then i will Marry you.

Today in India if a girl has to get married means, then she has to face so many problems. One of the main problem is Dowry. If girls family can't able to give that Dowry means then, i am surely saying there is no any words to express about the tortures that the girl will face in boys family. Many lost their lives because of this Dowry here in India, it's true. No one is realizing the value of Human lives and no one is feeling it. Now you people tell what you think about these ry's. And try to answer these questions,

Will you give Dowry (any case)? - No

Will you accept Dowry (any case)? - No

Will you ask Dowry (any case)? -No

Dowry marriage, is it necessary? - No

Give a name to the people who asks bribes to marry a girl? - B*****D

What's yours?

YES, DOWRY SYSTEM STILL PERSISTS IN INDIA !!! Very recently, I myself saw a marriage got canceled. Even though people are educated and "broad minded", they demand dowry like hell. Ofcourse the gal's family won't send her void, they will do whatever they can. Its good if they(bridegroom's) don't demand more.

Hail male chauvinism. Hail Indian !

i think this happens not only to india but other countries as well... and it's sad because it seems that a woman's value depends on the material things she can bring and not on the non-tangible qualities she has --- like wit, a loving and amiable disposition, etc... and i think it's tragic for any person ---whether man or woman to be seen and valued for one's monetary value instead of his/her personality and qualities... i guess what we need is is a change in outlook or perspective about the role of women in society... this won't happen overnight, but i think with several notable women like indira gandhi and benazir bhuto, we are heading in that direction (albeit slowly... but still that is a good progress)...

that dowry system doesn't work for our country. if two persons love each other and they are both of legal age, then just go.

I know this is rather common in India, though I have to admit why would anyone let their daughter[s] marry guys that are after the dowries? If a man truly loves that lady, dowry should be the last thing on his mind. Why are you supposed to 'pay/bribe' your future son-in-law to care for his own legal wife? That IS not what marriage is about! In fact, the men should stop accepting dowries just to show their sincerity. I'm quite surprised this is still happening nowadays.

How do you guys handle marriage in India? Who pays for lobola?

Lobola - exchange made for the daughter to her family

Here is South Africa for the black culture - we need to pay lobola as males :P sometimes it gets too expensive - lol

Big subject. I can't really comment on that. But I have to say your cartoon really made me laugh !

And, Linkinparkdiehardfan..amy - I think you are very smart, that is a universal rule you found.

In the phil, dowry is not required. How bad union must be first based on money. poor girl.

Your cartoon is an insult for the population, the so sweet and tender population of the holly goats.
Never, never a... what is the name? I forgot... A weman?... No... Oh yes, I remember now: woman. Never a woman is offered as a dowry to accompany the so delicate goat. It's too cheap.
And beside, this woman is talking without the permission of the holly goat?
That a second insult!
Grrrrrrr!

Hahahahaha... Your cartoon, man. So funny but it expresses what most people take women for. They take them as objects. Objects?! Yeah, coz they bought them when THEY were asked for that "high" dowry to pay for "their daughter". And I tell you, guys, some of the dowry asked is just ridiculous. Believe you me. I propose that DOWRY should be abolished. It just makes men think that women are objects and lesser humans. You know if you buy something, you can do as you please with it. You catch the drift?

Oh my gosh, that cartoon had me laughing out loud!

Thank you.

Wow! Brilliant cartoon!

Yes, in India, dowry is still being given during marriages. Infact it has now become a "status symbol" amongst the so called "Upper class" to bring expensive gifts (Cars, Jewelery, Cash.. what not!) from the girl's side when she marries.

Hopefully, thinks will change one day :)

Nice to know that you won't accept dowry. Lemme ask you something, if the gal's father is capable of giving and he says that you should accept coz he's doing for his dear daughter. What would you do?

Otherwise no… Because according to me, my wife family is my family. So I don’t feel any shy or any thing to ask help from them. I hope that I am not wrong in asking from them. Does it mean the girl there gives dowry to the male? that is indeed difficult and i hope people will become more broadminded on that. The important thing should be that both love each other. Usually nowadays, both share the cost for the marriage expenses unless there's a different agreement.

I think there is a certain logic in dowry. We used to have dowries in France some time ago. Young couples need money to start in life. However, in my opinion dowries should stay reasonable, and maybe not be the sole responsability of the girl's family. Maybe that way people would feel less strain to have baby girls...

It is not dowry that is to blame, but dowry crimes, I think.

In my country the big issue is the marriage contract, which organizes the sharing of past and future revenues between the couple.

@Del : Some people are get changing here.... So we hope for the best in future....

@Helene : According to me Dowry should get banned fully.... I won't accept that thing in any form....
