Why are People not ready to go for an HIV/AIDS test?

There are many people I have talked to about Aids but every time I ask them whether they would go for a HIV test of their own volition, they cast me such an icy look that I retract and recoil.

One friend of mine told me something to the effect that he would rather not know his HIV status (and live happily) than know that he has Aids and die of despair and despondency.
Many countries around the world have taken HIV/AIDS very seriously so much so that Voluntary Counselling and Testing clinics are in virtually every town. Home testing kits, too, are easy to come by. But people are still jittery about getting to know their HIV status. Why is this so? Would you be ready to go for a HIV test if asked to do so?

@Ritch : Surely i will go for it before my marriage.. Nothing wrong in that.. The reason why people are not ready to do it is "Shyness"......

Why only before your marriage?
:-)

@Franck : Before marriage no one is going to get affected through me (if suppose i am having AIDS) except few cases like Blood transmission and so on... Here in India they are trying to make the HIV test as compulsory before marriage. It's nice too... That's why i said like that. If i am good means then why should i hide my selves from these things... Hmmmm. What franck?

If I've well understood what is between lines, Whoah!
And in that case, yes, I totally agree with you.

Selerines,

HIV/AIDS especially amongst youth is a very touchy subject.

We should consider the depth and implications of knowing your status. How someone will react to this realization.

I do not know but most of us feel safe not knowing.

What do you say to that?

awareness about aids test is less, so
it will take time for people..

Of course I will. Science is so advanced nowadays that AIDS might be cured soon. Besides, it is our responsibility not to harm and infect others if we found out that we have it.

It is part of the whole medical check-up package that a person undergo. So if they do tests, it is only considered as normal specially if it's required. I think it's better to know, be responsible and protect others.

As I watching the documentary on TV about the AIDS in Africa...it's sad how it all started... the monkeys gave it to them... not because they have sex with but due to poverty and they just eat whatever there is to survive...

The AIDS is a lethal sexually transmitted disease. Therefore, any person having had a sexual relation without condom should be made test. For me, when I have a new girl friend, we use condoms during a few weeks, time to see whether one will walk some of the way a bit of a walk together, then we make both the test. Once the results arrived we remove the condom and let's have fun!

@Dravitoz : We should have faith in us... Nothing wrong in doing these kind of tests.... So that we will protect others from this...

@Bharath : It will take time???? Hmmm hmmmm.... How long????

@Lawstude : Yeah friend you are right.. Let us hope for the best..

@Del : Fine... Nice point..

@Dong : Every one ok? What about you?

@Salamat : Thanks for information.....

@Gwendal : Thanks for sharing it friend....

Very Good. Yes, we all should go for it. If we don't care now, then who will?

I don't know, am i being hyper sensitive or what (May be because i work in sector related to it), but terminology used in Headline is somewhat wrong terminology. You don't go for AIDS test. It's called HIV test. And when you are in state of AIDS, then also it's not said so. AT that time, CD4 of blood level is counted.
I know you might say, it's not big deal. But why to prefer wrong terminology over right one? Isn't it?
Cheers!

HIV/AIDS cases in the Phil. is a big problem too, even the minors get it coz of prostitution. I will be very willing to take the test.BUt, I will understand others who would rather not go through it coz of psychological effects.
